MOHALI: Commuters faced a tough time at Phase VIII, Industrial Area and some other parts of the city due to waterlogging after rain this morning.

Commuters faced a tough time at Phase VIII, Industrial Area and some other parts of the city due to waterlogging after rain this morning. Some of the roads in the Industrial Area, Sector 70, Phases X and XII were submerged. “The road leading to my workplace was submerged under over two-ft water," said Amit Kumar, an employee at a factory in the Industrial Area.

Another resident, Nikita, who was on her two-wheeler said she didn’t dare to drive on the submerged city roads. “I got late for my office by an hour. The authorities need to do something for the proper drainage of rainwater," Nikita said. Some city roads, including the stretch from Gurdwara Singh Shaeedan at Sohana village to the Sector 70 market and patches on NIPER road at Phases X and XII also witnessed waterlogging. The situation was worse in rural area as water accumulated on most of the roads at Mataur, Shahi Majra, Kumbhra, Daun, Sohana and Madanpura. Residents were seen up in arms due to the problem. Officials of the Mohali MC and Punjab Water and Sewerage Department tried to check the problem.
