Police toughen stance against illegal mining

LUDHIANA: The administration swung into action over illegally mining, following the change of the political regime. Three cases of illegal mining have been registered in the past two days.

The administration swung into action over illegally mining, following the change of the political regime. Three cases of illegal mining have been registered in the past two days.

Deputy Commissioner Pardeep Kumar Agarwal said illegal mining had been banned in the district. Senior officials had been conducting raids at various places. He said three FIRs had been lodged so far. Captain Amrinder Singh-led government had instructed all Deputy Commissioners of Punjab to check the illegal mining in their districts.

Agarwal said the district and the police administration would take every measure to stop the practice of illegal mining.He said one tractor-tariler and three tippers had been seized during the raid by the Meharban police and FIRs had been registered against unknown people.

Further, three tractor-trailers had been caught during a raid by the Machhiwara police and FIRs have been registered against unknown people.

A communique issued by the district administration stated that the tractor-trailer driver, who carries sand and gravel, must possess the appropriate papers to show that they were not involved in illegal mining. He said an action by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) had been taking place, wherein all block-development panchayat officers, mining officers and police officers were actively participating. He requested the masses to report about illegal mining on 0161-2400102.
