Raise snow trout production, says Minister

Shimla, February 16

Forest and Fisheries Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri laid stress on developing breeding technology for snow trout in the state so that its production could be increased by stocking of the seeds in rivers.

He was speaking at the 88th Annual General Meeting of Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) in New Delhi today, presided over by Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh.

Bharmouri urged the ICAR to provide assistance for introducing some new species of cold water fishes, best suited to high-altitude lakes/streams of the state. He also sought assistance for conducting a survey through national institutes for the identification of a number of ornamental fish species available in the state rivers. — TNS
