Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh today asked the Irrigation Department to compile a consolidated report on the water flowing to Pakistan from the state.
He also instructed for a strategy to tap these resources for meeting the irrigation requirements of the farmers.
During a review meeting here today, he stressed the need of saving water. Punjab would do its best to make optimal utilisation of this water to meet the irrigation and other related requirements. The status of River Management and Border area activity (RMBA) and other significant projects of the Drainage wing of the department were also reviewed.
Regarding timely cleaning and desilting of drains, the minister asked AK Bansal, Chief Engineer (Drainage), to present a report on the use of herbicides like Glysophate to check the growth of hyacinths in drains. The use of herbicides should not affect aquatic life, he stressed.
