Former Cabinet Minister and Himachal Pradesh State Cooperative Bank chairman Harsh Mahajan is confident of a Congress victory in the ensuing Assembly elections in the state.

In an official communiqué released to the media here today, Harsh Mahajan, who is a veteran leader of the Congress, said despite being in Shimla, he had always remained in touch with the people of Chamba and worked for their well-being.

“The people of Punjab have given a thumping mandate to the Congress thereby setting the stage for a Congress victory in Himachal Pradesh also,” Mahajan said.

Mahajan said a lot of development works had been carried out by the ruling Congress government and several schemes had been implemented for the uplift of people under the regime of Virbhadra Singh. The development in the state was the outcome of Virbhadra’s far-sightedness, he said.

As far as the development of Chamba segment was concerned, Mahajan said accessibility through a network of roads was the priority of the government and therefore, a sum of Rs 54.88 crore was being spent on the construction of roads and bridges.

Mahajan said the tendering process for three roads and a bridge to be constructed at a notional cost of Rs 10.41 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was underway.

In addition to this, the construction of an enormous bridge across the Ravi at Baloo near Chamba was going on a war footing, Mahajan said adding that the bridge would cost Rs 11 crore. When completed and commissioned, the bridge would benefit the Churah and Salooni subdivisions of the district, he said.
