Ambala, February 24

Health and Sports Minister Anil Vij said today that the call to dig the SYL canal was a gimmick planned by the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Vij said: “It was a gimmick planned by the SAD and the INLD, not a mission to dig the SYL canal. Punjab has lost its claim over the SYL in the Supreme Court and it has given contract to INLD to disturb atmosphere.”

Later in the day he held a meeting with officials of the Sports Department in which the design for the proposed sports hostel was finalised. Vij said: “A four-floor hostel will be constructed for sportspersons in Ambala Cantonment. The hostel would have the capacity to accommodate 150-175 players. Besides, there will be a provision for housing 48 coaches. The hostel would have facility for gymnastics, table tennis and physiotherapy.”
