Residents of the town and surrounding localities are perturbed over slow pace of work on development projects, which were started in a hurry before implementation of the model code of conduct, prior to the recent Assembly elections.

Earlier, priorities and pace of work were decided according to whims and wishes of leaders and councillors enjoying patronage of then SAD legislator Iqbal Singh Jhoondan. Meanwhile, officials concerned seem to have enjoyed immunity due to uncertainty about continuation of various posts of office-bearers of the civic body.

Justifying demands raised by residents, legislator of the Assembly segment, Surjit Singh Dhiman, had cautioned officials and contractors against willful delay or favoritism in completion of various projects.

According to observations providing residents of the town and surrounding areas with adequate civic amenities has become a major challenge for the Congress legislator, who was elected recently.

Repair and construction of roads, besides strengthening of the sewerage system are among major demands of residents.

Meanwhile, alleged slow pace of work on Jagera Road, Ambedkar Chowk, Pohir railway crossing road, Dehliz Road, Thana Road and Ram Sharnam Road has upset the lifestyle of all sections of society, including students and elderly. Contrary to expectation of residents none of the projects has been completed even after months of its inauguration.

Residents regretted that workers of contractors had been starting and suspending work according to their own convenience. It was also alleged that there were instances where work was suspended as the people had shown their inability to accommodate them.

Naresh Sharma, a social activist, lamented that the successive government had failed to improve the civic amenities and infrastructure till now.
