The government today announced plans to set up a hydro engineering college at Bilaspur saying it would boost regional development and provide more jobs to youths, besides providing specialised workforce to the National Thermal Power Corporation and the National Hydro Power Corporation.
“It is a historic moment,” Health Minister J P Nadda said while signing of an MoU between Government of Himachal Pradesh, NTPC and NHPC to set up the college. Nadda was the guest of honour at the signing ceremony in the presence of Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines. Prem Kumar Dhumal, former CM, and GS Bali, Transport Minister, were also present.
Nadda thanked Goyal for taking up the project in his home town and constituency.
“This initiative of a specialised engineering college will be unique,” he added.
The Health Minister said hydro power generation, particularly in the Himalayan region, required a combination of technical skills spanning different fields of engineering – civil, hydrology, mechanical and electrical engineering.
