State to have council for physiotherapy
Jhajjar, April 28
The state government will form a state council for physiotherapy for determining and coordinating the standards of education in the field of physiotherapy at all levels. It will not only ensure registration of physiotherapists in the state, but also prescribe a code of ethics for regulating the professional conduct of the practitioners.
Sources said the Department of Medical Education and Research, Haryana, has recently uploaded the Physiotherapy Draft Act, 2017, for the constitution of the Haryana State Council for Physiotherapy on its website and invited suggestions from physiotherapy professionals.
Hailing the government’s move, the Haryana Chartered Association of Physiotherapist (HCAP) said the formation of the council would not only curb quackery in the field of physiotherapist, but also improve the education system by introducing new courses and training programmes.
“Since there is no council for physiotherapy in the state, a large number of quacks are running physiotherapy centres. Formation of a council will ensure mandatory registration of every degree-holder physiotherapist to operator such centres,” said RK Mudgil, chief of the HCAP, maintaining that only four states — Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh — had the council for physiotherapy. —TNS
