Ludhiana, November 18
International GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Day was observed by the Indian Society of Geomatics (ISG), Ludhiana, in collaboration with the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre (PRSC).
The GIS Day gives an international forum to the users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference to the society.
ISG Secretary Anil Sood said various competitions were organised among the students of various schools in the city to mark the day. Around 120 students, 12 teachers and 60 research scholars participated in the event.
Joint Secretary Ajay Mathur convened the event successfully. PRSC Director and ISG president Brijendra Pateriya gave away the prizes to the winners.
Demonstration on the 3-D view of aerial photography and lectures by C M Adhikari, official from Esri India were organised to make the children aware of the uses of geospatial technologies.
Mukul Sharma and Aditya Grover from DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, won the quiz competition, while Ritwik Khanna and Rhythm Singla from the same school won the memory test. Anupreet Singh and Aishwarya from BVM School, Kitchlu Nagar, bagged the second prize in quiz and Nimesh Ahuja and Keshaw Singla in the memory test. Bhumika Chadda from BVM School won the poster-making competition and Krishma Thakur of Senior secondary School, PAU, secured the second position.
A skit competition on “Launch of satellite” was also organised. Students from DPS, Ludhiana, won and students from Sr Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, Ludhiana, were the runners-up. Jayant Sood from BVM won the treasurer hunt and the second prize was bagged by SSR School for Meritorious students, Ludhiana.
