Panipat, May 27
The Forest Department will carry out afforestation on the banks of Yamuna with the help of village panchayats situated along the river.
Ghanshyam Shukla, Forest Conservator (Central), said the survey had been completed in the district and it would soon be started in Sonepat and Karnal. Shukla said the Centre’s ‘Namami Gangey’ project would be a success only when Ganga’s tributaries are cleaned up too.
“Sewage is drained into Yamuna in Sonepat, Panipat and Karnal, thereby, polluting the river. The water should be treated before being drained, he added. —TNS
