Mussoorie, February 2

The much-awaited survey for the project of drawing potable water from the Yamuna to be supplied to Mussoorie will begin tomorrow, Peyjal Nigam officials said.

The survey for the project has cost the government Rs 4 crore, out of which it has released around Rs 2 crore.

Deepak Malik, Executive Engineer, Peyjal Nigam, said the survey would begin tomorrow and all formalities had been completed. He added the survey would try to identify land required for the project and assess the compensation amount to be paid to the land owners. Potable water would be brought to Mussoorie in three to four pumping stages and the estimated cost for the project was estimated to be around Rs 400 crore, which could escalate after the survey, said Malik.

However, many believe, once the project was completed water from the Yamuna would not be cheap for the consumers. Meanwhile, local residents have welcomed the move but they are also skeptical about whether the project will be completed in the stipulated time or not considering the past record of the Nigam.
