Muktsar, April 28

In less than four months, three SSP’s have been transferred in the district, which is home to the constituency of former CM Parkash Singh Badal.

The shortest tenure of 40-day was of Baljot Singh Rathore (IPS) who remained in the office from March 17 to April 25. His predecessor Dhruman H Nimbale (IPS) remained on the seat for 70 days from January 7 to March 17. Before him, Gurpreet Singh Gill (IPS) was transferred on January 7 this year and served here for less than a year.

Now, all eyes are on Sushil Kumar (PPS), who took charge on April 25. He is the fourth SSP within this year.

The incumbent officer makes changes down the line with subordinate staff like SHOs and those heading other wings at the district level being reshuffled or replaced. This effects the whole chain of command.

Sources said that Gill was transferred by the Election Commission ahead of the Assembly elections. He had earlier served here as SSP from November, 2007 to February, 2010.

Nimbale was transferred after the Congress regime took over and was replaced by Baljot Singh Rathore. The latter had served here for a short stint in 1996-97.

“Rathore has been replaced by Sushil Kumar after some major law and order incidents were reported in the district, which included the mysterious death of a SAD worker during a police raid, alleged assault on a scribe in Gidderbaha by some Congressmen and immolation bid by a vegetable vendor who accused Congressmen of threatening him,” said the sources.
