Tibetans call for releasing Panchen Lama

DHARAMSALA: The Panchen Lama, who has been missing for the past 22 years, was remembered here today on his 28 birth anniversary.

The Panchen Lama, who has been missing for the past 22 years, was remembered here today on his 28 birth anniversary.

According to Tibetans, he was under the custody of the Chinese authorities since he suddenly disappeared at the age of six when he was recognized by the Dalai Lama.

On the occasion of 28th birth anniversary of Panchen Lama, Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), released a video gathering support for his release. The video titled “Missing- the Panchen Lama of Tibet,” features messages from political personalities from six different countries: Dr Arno Kompatscher, President of South Tyrol in Italy, Senator Michel Raison, Senator Andre Gattolin and Senator Annick Billon from France, Maya Garf, Member of Parliament, from Switzerland, Consiglio Di Nino, former Senator from Canada, Senator Lisa Singh from Australia, Yashwant Sinha, former Foreign and Finance Minister, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Ninong Ering and Thupstan Chhewang, MPs.
