The 10-day training progamme for Haridwar district jail inmates on the making of energy efficient lights organised by the Society of Pollution and Environmental Conservation Scientists concluded today.

Haridwar district jail superintendent Satish Kumar Sukhija said it had helped train the inmates in the making of LED bulbs and bamboo-carved LED lights. He said LED was an answer for future light systems. “These lights consume less electricity compared to ordinary bulb, tube lights and CFL. LED lights consume 80 per cent less electricity in comparison to ordinary bulb and 45 per cent less in comparison to CFL,” he said.

Earlier, Dr Brij Mohan Sharma, convener of the programme, said the training progamme was part of the project funded through the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) of the USA. Inmates were trained in making electronic LED circuit, bamboo craft and assembling of bamboo LED decorative energy efficient lights. “The inmates have made more than 50 lights in the training period,” he added.

Master resource person Yogesh Bhatt said the training had been a good experience towards empowerment of inmates.—TNS
