The Tulip Garden in the foothills of the Zabarwan range will remain open for a week more than its normal course due to favourable weather conditions.

Even as the garden had been thrown open on March 27 and usually remains open for around a month, it will now close on May 5.

“The Tulip Garden will remain open till May 5 as weather has remained favourable,” said Director Floriculture MH Mir.

Considered to be the largest garden of its kind in Asia, visitors to the sprawling garden overlooking the Dal Lake this year witnessed a bloom of a million tulip bulbs of 48 varieties.

Even though tulips can be seen in full bloom for around a month only, the garden has been credited with having extended the tourist season in the Valley. — TNS
