Two soldiers killed in Pak firing; 2 militants gunned down

SRINAGAR/RAJOURI: Two Indian Army jawans were killed and another injured as Pakistani troops pounded several places along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The Army foiled an infiltration bid in Gurez sector and gunned down two militants.

Two Indian Army jawans were killed and another injured as Pakistani troops pounded several places along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. The Army foiled an infiltration bid in Gurez sector and gunned down two militants.

A soldier was killed when Pakistani troops fired few sniper shots near LoC in north Kashmir’s Nowgam sector in Kupwara district.

The identity of the slain soldier was yet to be ascertained.

One more soldier, Sepoy Jaspreet Singh, was killed in LoC shelling in Rajouri.

Sepoy Jaspreet Singh (24), belonged to Talwandi Naliyan village in Moga district of Punjab. He is survived by his parents.

Meanwhile, two unidentified militant were killed in a gunfight as Army foiled infiltration bid in Gurez sector of Bandipore district.

A group of militants was intercepted by soldiers close to the Line of Control in Gurez sector, some 180 km from Srinagar, during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

"As militants were challenged, they opened fire triggering a gunfight. During the search operation, body of two militants was recovered and besides three weapons,” defence sources said.

The combing operation was underway till the last reports.

They said Army suspected that more militants may have been killed during the gunfight.

This year over 100 militants have been killed by the forces in hinterland and along the LoC, which is highest in this period in last 10 years. — With agencies
