International kabaddi player Ajay Thakur inaugurated a curtain raiser workshop for the state-level Under-19 Central Armed Police Force Football Talent Hunt championship to be played at the football stadium at Khad village of the district from May 1. Ajay Thakur, a DSP with the Himachal Police, is the brand ambassador for the tournament.
The centralised training centre of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) at Sapri in Kangra district has been entrusted with the responsibility of organising the tournament, in which eight teams each from the women’s and men’s sections will participate.
Subhash Negi, Commandant of the SSB, Sapri centre, said similar championships were being organised throughout the country by different Central Armed Police Forces. The shortlisted players would participate in the PM’s Under-19 Football Cup.
Deepak Sharma, general secretary of the Himachal Pradesh Football Association, said tournaments were being organised throughout the country in the wake of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be hosted by India from October 6 to 28 later this year.
He said the Khad stadium was being prepared to host the tournament, adding that SSB jawans and officers were working hard for the preparations.
