SANGRUR: Bad weather compelled Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to travel by road as their choppers could not take off for Sangrur today.

Bad weather compelled Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to travel by road as their choppers could not take off for Sangrur today. The two leaders travelled in the district to campaign till evening.

Amainder reached Lehragaga at 5.15 pm, almost 6 hours behind schedule. There, Congress candidate Rajinder Kaur Bhattal had organised a rally.

“Our government has always worked for the development of backward areas. I declare here that Lehragaga will be made a district, if the Congress is voted to power,” Amarinder said at the rally. “The Badals will face action for robbing the state,” the former CMadded.

In Sangrur, Congress’ candidate Vijay Inder Singla had organised a rally in a grain market for Amarinder. The rally was scheduled for 11 am. Singla and his supporters waited for the state Congress chief for hours, but he did not turn up.

In Dhuri, Sukhbir said that Navjot Singh Sidhu had no base in his own city Patiala. “Sidhu always prefers his personal interest.”

On AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal, the Deputy CM said he was a thug who wanted to take over Punjab by befooling Punjabis. “Kejriwal has cut everyone who had assisted him to size — be it Anna Hazare or Prashant Bhushan. He has ruined the career of all AAP leaders, including Sucha Singh Chottepur and Bhagwant Mann,” he added.
