Faridkot, May 4

To force the authorities to restore the power supply to waterworks in their village, some youths of Arianwala Kalan village of Faridkot today climbed the water tank and threatened to end their lives if the power supply was not restored.

Like many other villages of the area, the power supply to the waterworks in Arianwala village was also snapped about two month back for non-payment of about Rs 28 lakh electricity bill. Since that time there was no supply of water from waterworks in the village and residents were relying on groundwater which contain high fluoride contents, said Manpreet Singh Arianwala , a village youth.

“We made several visits to the offices of the water supply and sanitation and electricity departments, but they were adamant on the payment of Rs 28 lakh. As collecting this huge amount was no possible in one go, some youths of the village climbed the water tank today, said Manpreet.

This threat worked as many senior officials rushed to the village and the power supply was restored to prevail upon the youths to climb down.
