Maloya man convicted of raping minor

CHANDIGARH: The Additional District and Sessions Judge convicted a Maloya resident of raping an eight-year-old girl.

The Additional District and Sessions Judge convicted a Maloya resident of raping an eight-year-old girl. The quantum of sentence will be awarded on Wednesday.

According to the prosecution, the victim’s brother had lodged a complaint against Shiv Kumar. He had stated in the plaint that his younger sister had come from Uttar Pradesh to live with him during holidays in Chandigarh.

Shiv, a carpenter, on June 28, 2015, finding the victim alone, took her to a forest after on the pretext of giving her chocolates and raped her. A woman, who runs a dhaba near the forest area, noticed the girl crying in the forest and immediately informed the police. The victim was taken to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, for treatment. She was discharged in the evening. The victim’s parents had gone to their native place and they were informed about the incident. The police had registered a case of rape at the Sector 39 police station.
