Teacher’s bail plea dismissed

CHANDIGARH:A local court here has dismissed an anticipatory bail plea of a city schoolteacher in the teachers’ recruitment scam.

A local court here has dismissed an anticipatory bail plea of a city schoolteacher in the teachers’ recruitment scam.

Sonia, a Sector 55 resident, an accused in the case, was earlier given an interim bail in January. The period of the same got over, so she filed another application.

The accused contended in her plea after getting interim bail from the court that she had joined the police investigation and cooperated with investigating officials. On this ground, she should be given interim relief.

While the police in their reply stated Sonia had joined the probe and had even given vital information regarding the case. But for tracing the absconding accused, her questioning was required.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau had unearthed this scam and had revealed the question paper was sold to the candidates for Rs 7 lakh a few ago prior to the written test. It was conducted for hiring 1,150 teachers in Chandigarh in January and February 2015.

In this case, several teachers and middlemen were arrested by the UT Police.
