15 booked for poll violence

FEROZEPUR: A day after the elections, the police booked 15 persons under Sections 171 and 188 of the IPC on the charges of threatening, intimating voters and violating the poll norms in Guruharsahai.

A day after the elections, the police booked 15 persons under Sections 171 and 188 of the IPC on the charges of threatening, intimating voters and violating the poll norms in Guruharsahai.

According to the police, all these persons were outsiders. They reportedly came to this constituency to influence the voters.

The accused have been identified as Bhupinder Singh, Karamdeep Singh, Harjinder Singh, Gurjit Singh, Karaminder Singh, Harpreet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Tarsem Singh, Gurnam Singh, Rajpal Singh, Amarjit Singh, Gurjas Singh, Sandip Singh, Bhupinder Singh and Kuldip Singh.

In another case, the police booked a Congress worker identified as Roop Lal for allegedly distributing cash among voters at Talwandi Bhai in Ferozepur (rural) constituency.

Yesterday, the police had apprehended him and recovered Rs 57,000 cash which was purportedly meant to be distributed amid the electorate.

A case under Sections 171-E, 171-F and 171-H of the IPC was registered at the Ghall Khurd police station. Another case under Section 336 of the IPC has been registered against three unidentified miscreants at the Guruharsahai police station for firing gunshots in the air while the polling was underway outside Government Girls School in Guruharsahai.

The three masked persons were caught on one of the CCTV cameras installed in a shop while firing in air with an aim to spread panic among voters. Several more skirmishes took place. The police are verifying the veracity of the complaints. Several unidentified SAD-BJP and Congress workers were also booked by the city police for flouting the model code of conduct on the polling day.
