Muktsar, December 26

The state police have registered 204 cases of kidnappings in the last seven days. The move came after the state was pulled up by the Supreme Court recently for its "inaction" on the matter of missing persons.

The state police have to file an affidavit in the apex court on January 13 on the number of cases registered.

VK Bhawra, ADGP and Director, Bureau of Investigation, had sent a letter to all SSPs on December 16 directing them to register FIRs in all missing persons' cases. A perusal of the daily crime bulletin uploaded on state police's website revealed that as many as 204 cases of kidnapping were registered across the state from December 17 to December 23. The maximum number of 62 cases has been registered in Ludhiana district.
