Couple murdered in Mewat village, 2 women sexually assaulted

Chandigarh, August 25

A couple was murdered and their two teenage relatives were allegedly sexually assaulted by unidentified people who barged into the family’s house at a village in Haryana’s Mewat district in the wee hours of Thursday.

The assailants first killed the couple, said to be around 40, with sharp-edged weapons and then injured six other members of the family, all of whom were sleeping in the house located near the fields at Digerhedi village, police said.

The injured included two women, aged 18 and 19, who were sexually assaulted by the assailants. They were related to the couple, they said.

After committing the crime, the accused tied the injured with ropes and escaped. Neighbours found the injured after which the police were informed.

“A couple was killed in the incident. Two women have been sexually assaulted,” Mewat SP Kuldeep Singh told PTI over phone.

“Efforts are on to nab the assailants. The injured have been hospitalised,” he said.

A case under relevant sections had been registered and investigation was on, Singh added. PTI
