Muktsar, April 27

A joint team of the Health Department and police today nabbed a woman doctor for allegedly performing an abortion at her hospital in Malout.

A raid was conducted at the hospital of Dr Gurcharan Kaur on the national highway and the equipment used to perform the illegal act was seized. Besides, the patient was shifted to the Civil Hospital.

SHO Boota Singh said, “The doctor has been nabbed and a case is being registered against her.” Besides, the cops were also verifying whether the doctor had a valid degree to run the hospital or not.

Sources said the woman had first gone to the Civil Hospital where the doctors had advised her to get her foetus aborted. “Since no private doctor is allowed to perform abortion, action is being taken against the doctor,” sources added.
