Gurgaon, December 15

The death toll in the Porsche accident reached three, as two more labourers succumbed to their injuries today.

The deceased have been identified as Lakhan and Ram Prasad, both from Madhya Pradesh. They were among seven injured labourers brought to hospital yesterday after being hit by a Porsche here.

The police have, meanwhile, rounded up the car driver, Ashok Kumar. The car was reportedly registered in the name of Vikon Engineers Private Limited, based in Delhi’s Sunder Nagar.

A family of Gargs based in Gurgaon is the company’s owner. It has an authorised capital of Rs5 lakh and paid-up capital of Rs1.3 lakh. It has six directors.

The police claimed that the driver was accompanied either by a member of the Garg family or one of the company directors, and was headed to a showroom of Audi cars.

“All six directors will be made to join the investigation. Kumar was injured and, prima facie, it appears that he was driving. He will be examined medically to ascertain whether or drunk at the time of the accident. He was accompanied by one of the company high-ups or a member of the Garg family, who probably fled after the accident,” said ACP Rajesh Kumar.

The families of the labourers claimed that nobody from the car cared to look if anybody was alive. “It was raining and we (labourers and members of their families) took shelter in a trolley. The car hit the trolley first and then banged into us. I was in the driver’s seat at that time. I got out and all I saw was a damaged car,” said Sharman, whose mother (52) and sister (24) are struggling for life.

On Sunday evening, eight labourers were re-carpeting a road when it started to rain. They ran for shelter under the trolley. Only two of them managed to get under it when Porsche coming from the Delhi’s side hit the trolley, rammed into the divider and then hit the labourers, killing one of them on the spot. The driver had fled after the accident.
