Housewife ends life, in-laws held

A 24-year-old housewife and mother of an eight-month-old son last night committed suicide by consuming poison at Lanj village. The police arrested her in-laws for abetment to suicide and dowry on the complaint of the victim’s parents and the court remanded them in police custody till December 30.

The Kangra police said Kamna was married to Parveen Kumar. She was a graduate and had completed her BEd last year. Her parents alleged that Parveen used to assault their daughter and did not spare her even when she was pregnant.

The police said on Friday night the couple had an altercation and Kamna consumed some poison. She was rushed to the DRPGMC, Tanda, but died on the way. The police arrested the victim’s husband Parveen Kumar, father-in-law Man Singh and mother-in-law Kamla Devi.
