Chandigarh, January 18
The Chandigarh Police have booked a resident of Mukerian in Punjab for allegedly kidnapping a 21-year-old MA first year student of DAV College, Sector 10.
According to the police, the victim’s parents had approached the police on January 17, alleging that their daughter was abducted by a youth from outside the college on January 16.
The police said the accused has been identified as Ashish Arora.
Sources said the victim and the accused were known to each other and were friends on Facebook.
The mobile phone of the victim is switched off and her parents have failed to contact her.
The sources said the parents of the accused were informed about the case against their son and were asked to cooperate with the police; however, later they also switched off their mobile phones and are untraceable.
Inspector Poonam Dilawari, SHO, Sector 3 police station, said a raid was conducted at the house of the accused, but it was locked.
A case against the accused under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused at the Sector 3 police station and an investigation has been initiated.
