A day after the city police suspended an Assistant Sub-Inspector and a head constable for allegedly taking bribe from a woman, the victim today alleged that she was also subjected to sexual harassment by them.

She demanded registration of a criminal case against the ASI and head constable identified as Jasbir Singh and Ravinder Sharma, respectively, besides a district attorney who took Rs 10,000 from her. He was introduced to her by Jasbir Singh.

She produced a video footage before the media which showed the ASI, who is deputed as reader of the ACP, Headquarters, taking Rs 1 lakh from the victim.

She alleged that Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh ignored her application and did not take any action against the accused when she met him on July 16. The city police suspended the ASI and head constable after the issue was raised before Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal by a mediaperson during a Sangat Darshan programme at Jandiala Guru yesterday.

She said her first husband died in 2007. She alleged that her second husband, who was posted in the Roadways Department, married her while stating that he was separated from his wife. She said he took her to Chandigarh after his transfer where his first wife and children surfaced. She said her husband started harassing her and later threw her out of the house. She lodged a complaint with the Chandigarh police which referred the case to Amritsar. She said she separately submitted a complaint to the city police in this regard which was forward to ACP, Headquarters, Harkamal Kaur, where she came in contact of the ASI and the head constable.

She alleged ASI Jasbir Singh called her to submit the documents and evidence regarding her complaint. She said later he started calling her on her mobile and started coming to her house on one pretext or other. She alleged he took the money from her after using the name of the ACP. She alleged he also threatened to make a report against her in case she did not give him money.

The victim alleged that Jasbir called her to the ACP’s Office in the absence of ACP Harkamal Kaur. They tried to molest her, but when she resisted, Ravinder Sharma went away, while Jasbir Singh apologised.

Police Commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulakh said he had received preliminary investigation report on the basis of CCTV footage. He said a case under Section 354-A of the IPC and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act had been registered against Jasbir and Ravinder. “As far as the involvement of the district attorney is concerned, detailed investigations are under progress and nobody will be spared,” he said.
