Drug supply in Delhi has suddenly increased in last few months in spite of Delhi Police Crime Branch been on active mode all the time.

According to the DCP (Special Cell), these days majority of drugs are been brought in Delhi-NCR from Naxal-affected areas like Chhattisgarh.

The sale of illicit drugs like marijuana and party drugs like heroin and MDMA (meththylenedioxy-methamphetamine) are on the rise. These durgs cause general feelings of pleasure and dissociate the users from the environment, allowing them to stay awake or dance for several hours without feeling fatigue.

These drugs are available all over Delhi and are been sold mostly by juveniles or women taking advantage of the complexities attached of arresting them.

Drugs like marijuana are mostly consumed by school or college students while heroin and party drugs are consumed by the high-profile party-goers.

Arrested peddlers have confessed to the police that the peddling of the drugs near universities and colleges has risen. Places like Dayal Singh College (Lodhi Road), Mehraulli, Mahipalpur, Madangir, Nizamuddin, Old Delhi railway station and Okhla are few of the popular delivery hubs.

According to police, lot of auto-rickshaw drivers and Bangladeshi migrants are into the drug-peddling business.

A drug supplier in south Delhi said, "the party drugs are sold mostly at night and early morning hours when the party is still on and we sell heroin packet of 8-10 g for Rs 200 and party drugs like MDMA and other tablets for Rs 1,000."

The drug peddlers are initially taught how to run the business and instructed not to keep cell phones during drug peddling in order to avoid being caught by the police. The destination of delivery of drugs and supply keeps on changing every time, he said.

He also said selling of drugs in Delhi without police being involved is impossible. As in Delhi, police might be unaware of where the crime is taking place but the beat officers are well aware of area drugs is been supplied.

In order to keep the senior police officers happy, the beat officers some time catch hold of peddlers and send them to jail for a small span. When drug peddlers are caught, small quantity of drug is shown recovered due to which even court stands in position to implicate the peddler for small time in jail.
