New Delhi, April 25

If Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) emerges victorious after declaration of the civic elections tomorrow, the party’s priority

would be for unification of the three municipal

corporations in one unit, said Union Minister Vijay Goel.

It will also launch a training programme for new corporators to make them understand the

civic body functioning as they are all novice, the minister said.

Goel stated that the erstwhile Sheila Dikshit government had hurriedly bi-furcated the municipal body into three parts – South, North and East – that is headed by directorate of civic bodies.

“Except one municipal body, the rest two are running into losses and it would be more fruitful and efficient if all three are merged as they were initially”, he said.

Saying that newly elected MCDs thrust will be on work of sanitation, Goel said unification of civic body would make collection and distribution of revenue easy.

The MCD will be divided in zones under one municipal commissioner, one mayor, one leader of the House and one Standing Committee chairman.

Goel also said he would approach the Union government to appoint mayor for full five years term. At present the mayor is elected after every year.

When Sheila Dikshit moved a proposal for trifurcating the MCD, the Congress was in power at Centre that made her easy to fulfil her dream, though it was opposed by the BJP. At present, all the three MCDs have separate municipal commissioner, mayor, Leader of the House and chairman of Standing Committee.

He said that today’s electorates want visibility of development work. The work of Aam Adami Party (AAP) is not visible in Delhi that is why electorates did negative polling against the party.
