The Union Ministry of Sports Affairs will open 100 gymnasiums in various DDA parks located in different areas.
Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel today met senior DDA officials in this regard and urged them to devote more space to playfields in schools.
He stated that senior secondary schools must be given at least four acres of land in order to make better playfields for the students.
Goel said, “We would create 100 gyms across parks owned by the DDA. It will also open its sports complexes for children. A joint committee of DDA and Sports Ministry will examine vacant plots across Delhi and work towards developing them into sports fields or multipurpose grounds."
This will be a pilot project which will also be an example for other states, he said.
Goel stated that around 50 fields will be developed for multiple sports like volleyball, basketball etc. Two golf courses under DDA (18 holes each) have been asked to reduce
their fee from Rs 600 to Rs 200 so that children can play and learn golf at an affordable fee.
This meeting was one of its kind and a similar meeting with NDMC will be held very soon, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports said.
DDA Vice-Chairman Uday Pratap Singh said that 773 parks of the DDA have been given to the MCD.
