Airport staffer, passenger held for gold smuggling

NEW DELHI:Two persons held for smuggling gold from IGI Airport yesterday, said a CISF official.

Two persons held for smuggling gold from IGI Airport yesterday, said a CISF official. CISF surveillance and intelligence staff observed Himanshu, a PCO operator, roaming suspiciously in international reclaim area of terminal-3, yesterday, said the official.

He was kept under CCTV camera surveillance. After some time it came to notice that he was receiving something from an arrival passenger, identified as Ashok Kumar Kumawat, near arrival baggage belt. CISF surveillance and intelligence staff intercepted Himanshu when Kumawat moved towards immigration area, official said.

During Himanshu’s checking about 1,370 g gold, worth approximate Rs 40 lakh, concealed in a packet of cigarettes was recovered from his possession, he said.

The matter was informed to customs officials. Kumawat, a resident of Jhunjhunu (Rajasthan), arrived from Dubai, was also intercepted, he said.

They both are under the customs custody, the official added.
