A 55-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Delhi Police allegedly shot himself dead last evening in Jaitpur, Southeast Delhi. A suicide note was found with the ASI which is being probed.
According to a senior police officer, ASI Devendra got a service pistol issued around 6 pm. Then he went to an isolated place and allegedly shot himself.
“He was posted at the Jaitpur Police Station and his shift was to begin at 8 pm. After getting the pistol, he went to the banks of the Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj and shot himself in the head,” said DCP Romil Baaniya (Southeast).
The police said his private motorcycle was parked near the spot. While the police are trying to ascertain the reason for the suicide, according to the DCP, his brother-in-law passed away two months ago and his family was going through a tough phase.
“The postmortem was conducted today, and his family has been informed,” said the DCP.
“The family members of the ASI this afternoon met the senior officers at Police Headquarters and submitted a representation along with the copy of a note left behind by the ASI before committing suicide and the same has been marked to the additional DCP rank officer for inquiry,” said the DCP.
“The family requested for recruitment of his son on compassionate ground,” added the DCP.
