The Delhi Police today announced that it will give a cash award of Rs 25,000 to the people who provide "actionable" audio or video evidence against policemen involved in corruption.

Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi said, "We are starting a new scheme under which anyone who gives actionable audio or video evidence against any police personnel involved in corrupt practices will be given an award of Rs 25,000."

He added, "Persons providing actionable evidence against a civilian involved in corruption will also be eligible for an award of Rs 10,000."

The scheme was announced after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal attacked the Delhi Police on the basis of the findings of a new survey on corruption by the Centre for Media Studies.

Bassi, however, claimed that he had no knowledge about the parameters of the survey but refrained from challenging its validity.

"It has posed further challenge for us to eradicate corruption from the Delhi Police and till date we have started several initiatives to fight the menace," Bassi said, citing facilities of reporting lost documents through the Internet and "truthful registration" of crimes.

He added that several corruption complaints have been made in regard to these two fields.
