New Delhi, June 24

The Public Works Department (PWD) has approved construction of seven foot overbridges (FOB) for pedestrians in the national Capital.

The proposed sites for the seven foot overbridges are RTR Marg, Nelson Mandela Marg, ISBT at Sarai Kale Khan, inner Ring Road-Mahatama Gandhi Marg (Shakurpur village), Tamil Sangam Marg, Harswaroop Colony and Mayapuri.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the PWD’s FOB Committee held recently. The meeting was chaired by Manoj Kumar Parida, principal secretary of the PWD.

The committee turned down the proposals for the construction of three other foot overbridges (FOB) at the SDMC office, Chhattarpur Mandir and Sultanpuri main busstand, due to site constraint and total footfall of pedestrians.

The decision was taken on the basis of a feasibility study and factors, such as space availability and traffic movement footfall on these roads.

A footfall survey at the RTR Marg revealed that over 1,894 pedestrians crossed the road during the day and traffic density for 12-hour period was found to be 84,407 vehicles.

The subway subcommittee of the department started inspecting the sites last year and submitted its report in which it took note of the people crossing the said stretches per hour during the peak time.

The last such visit was conducted at the ISBT Sarai Kalen Khan area in April, said an official.
