New Delhi, March 22

With the arrest of a couple, Manisha (35) and Vijay Singh (41), the police have busted a network of thieves who committed a spate of thefts in posh colonies of Delhi.

Jewellery and other items worth Rs 80 lakh were also recovered from them which they had stolen from the house of a diamond trader.

A complaint was received from Nishu Tripathi, a resident of Vasant Kunj, that diamond jewellery worth Rs 50 lakh had been stolen from their house.

It was further reported that the maid they had hired a day prior to the incident was also missing. She was hired through a placement agency. It was learnt that over the past few months, many such agencies had opened and shut shops after being functional for a short period.

Most of them were being run by the same couple. The police traced their location by monitoring the mobile numbers used by the closed agencies and managed to arrest them just before they were to leave Delhi with the booty from Nizamuddin, said DCP Ishwar Singh.
