Cops hand-in-glove with govt: Swaraj India

The Swaraj India (SI) today came down heavily on the AAP government and the Delhi Police claiming “inaction” on their part despite the registration of an FIR in a case embroiling the city government and ministry officials over alleged fraudulent permit transfers in the Burari Transport Authority.

It has demanded that CM Arvind Kejriwal suspend accused officials with immediate effect against whom an FIR has been lodged and that the police must arrest them at the earliest. The CBI inquiry must be ordered in all cases where permit transfers have been obtained in names of deceased, female or senior-citizen auto-drivers, said Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan-led SI.

SI state president Anupam demanded that Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot must resign and take the responsibility of “rampant corruption” in the department.

He demanded that the government take immediate action on this matter failing which auto-rickshaw drivers will launch a protest against the corrupt officials and the Ministry of Transport.

The party leaders had highlighted a special case in which permit of a deceased auto-driver was transferred to another auto-driver using forged documents. The transfer was apparently made without even informing the family of the deceased auto-driver, they said.

The SI alleged the fraud happened with “collusion” of Transport Department’s MLO and MVI and private brokers against whom it later filed a complaint.

The deceased auto-driver’s mother, Shanti Devi, said she had approached the officials concerned and AAP leaders but to no avail while Swaraj India supported her.

“After no action was taken on the complaint, the party approached the court demanding an investigation. On February 7, the court then ordered an FIR be registered against MLO Rajesh Kumar Meena, MVI Jitendra and the brokers involved in the case. FIR filed against government officials on court orders, but no action thereafter has been taken,” said SI leaders.

“The Delhi Police is in hand-in-glove with the Delhi Government in protecting the guilty. Neither have the police arrested the accused, who have been booked on non-bailable offences, nor has the government suspended its officials despite charges of brazen corruption,” it alleged.
