Delhi Police personnel awarded

Twenty officers and men of the Delhi Police have been conferred with police medals for their services. Four of them have been awarded with the Police Medals for Gallantry, two get President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 14 receive Police Medal for Meritorious Service on the occasion of Independence Day - 2015. 

Inspector Kailash Singh Bisht, (2ND BAR TO PMG), Head Constable Satender Kumar, Head Constable Rajeev Kumar and Constable Birender Singh have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry.

Based on information, a team of the Delhi Police Special Cell went to Mendhar, Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir and identified the house where alleged Pakistani terrorist Umar Khitab, Divisional Commander of the Jaish-e-Mohd was hiding. A joint team of the Special Cell and 37 RR, SOG Mendhar and Police personnel of Mendhar Police Station armed with weapons, bullet-proof jacket cordoned the house of Zubair at Mendhar. 

At about 6.15 am, on seeing security forces, the hiding terrorist opened fire on the police party and security forces and injured one Lance Naik Sajjan Singh of 37RR. The bullets fired by Jaish-e-Mohd militants passed close to the team members of the Special Cell. There was an encounter lasted two hours. In this cross-firing, Umar was killed and one alleged militant, Zubair, was apprehended. 

S.Vasudeva Rao, Special Commissioner of Police (Welfare & Estate Oversight), Dr. Vivek Gogia, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) have been awarded President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service. Vijay Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Rastrapati Bhawan), Sawtantar Singh Gill, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ist Battalion Delhi Armed Police), Laxmi Bai Kanwat, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) (SPUWAC), Inspector (Min.) Surender Kumar, Sub-Inspector (Exe.) Brahm Pal, Sub-Inspector (Min.) Naresh Chopra, Assistant Sub-Inspector (Dvr.), Head Constable (Exe.) Jitender Kumar and Constable (Exe.) Kalyan Chand are among those awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
