The Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) has issued notices to the police and a Resident Welfare Association (RWA) here, seeking reports about the alleged assault on a Kashmiri woman and her relatives recently.

The commission’s chairman, Zafarul Islam Khan, said notices have been issued in the recent incident in Siddhartha Extension, southeast Delhi, to the police and the RWA of the area.

The commission has directed the RWA members to refrain from making baseless allegations against the woman.

Last week, around four women were allegedly roughed up by a mob of around 30 to 40 people and based on a complaint from one of them the police registered an FIR under various sections.

Later the police registered another case against the victims’ family members on a complaint by residents of the locality. It is learnt that in the past, too, both sides have registered cases against each other.

A video of the incident had surfaced drawing reactions from various quarters. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti took up the issue with Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal.

The complainant had alleged that they were being targeted because of their Kashmiri origin. However, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik briefed the Home Secretary that the incident was rather a local issue involving feeding of dogs and nothing to do with the origin of Kashmir.

In the case, the police have arrested four men — Kalyan, a security guard and three locals, SN Pandey, RK Chopra and Anil Lath — on the basis of the CCTV camera footage collected in connection with the incident.
