Manjit Singh (GK), chief of Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has been elected president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) and Manjinder Singh Sirsa general secretary by the elected members of the committee.

Both the leaders have been given this opportunity third time in a row. They were elected first time for these posts in 2013 while defeating the Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) led by Sarna brothers.

The Director of the Directorate Gurdwara Election elected Santa Singh Ummedpuri as pro tem chairman of the committee whose name was moved by Manjinder Singh Sirsa and was seconded by Amarjit Singh Fateh Nagar. Thereafter, under Ummedpuri’s leadership, Manjit Singh (GK) was elected president of the DSGMC; senior vice-president, Harmit Singh Kalka; vice-president, Harmanjit Singh; general secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa and joint secretary Amarjit Singh Fateh Nagar.

Besides, Harinderpal Singh, Kulwant Singh Bath, Gurmit Singh Meeta, Chaman Singh, Jasbir Singh Jassi, Harvinder Singh (KP), Paramjit Singh Chandhok, Amarjit Singh Pinki, Mahinderpal Singh Chadha and an independent candidate Tarvinder Singh Marwah have been elected executive members.

Senior Akali Dal leader Kuldep Singh Bhogal said electing Tarvinder Singh Marwah, an independent candidate, as executive member of the DSGMC is very insulting as he is the person who opposed the party at all forums and was always with the Congress. He never favoured victims of 1984 riots for compensation.
