New Delhi, April 27

Following resignation of Dilip Pandey, Delhi's ruling AAP is likely to appoint Labour Minister Gopal Rai as the new convenor of its city unit, sources said.

This decision was taken in an emergency meeting called by the Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal at his residence today, a day after the party's defeat in municipal polls.

The meeting, attended by party MLAs, also reviewed the possible reasons for AAP's defeat in the municipal polls.

"Rai's name has been chosen for new AAP Delhi convenor with consensus of the executive members and MLAs of the party . However, any final decision in this connection will be taken in a meeting of party's Political Affairs Committee," sources said.

Dilip Pandey, who was the party's Delhi convenor, on Wednesday resigned from the post after the party's debacle in the municipal elections. Kejriwal accepted his resignation.

Earlier in the day, senior party leader Sanjay Singh resigned as its Punjab in-charge. Party's co-incharge for Punjab Durgesh Pathak also resigned.

The BJP won 181 of the 270 wards for which elections were held.

The AAP could win in just 48 wards and the Congress lagged in third place with 30 seats.
