IPL betting racket busted, 9 arrested

NEW DELHI:A team of the Delhi Police (Eastern range) unearthed an IPL betting racket that was being run from a five star hotel of Northwest Delhi and arrested nine persons with 10 mobile phones, three laptops, seven book numbers (mobile phones), two landline numbers and some note sheets being used for booking of bets were recovered from them, said a police official.

A team of the Delhi Police (Eastern range) unearthed an IPL betting racket that was being run from a five star hotel of Northwest Delhi and arrested nine persons with 10 mobile phones, three laptops, seven book numbers (mobile phones), two landline numbers and some note sheets being used for booking of bets were recovered from them, said a police official.

Thw accused are identified as Kunal Miglani, Sumit Kalra, Jitender Kumar, Nitin Harjani, Nikhil Goswami, Amit Kumar Dhingra, Sumit Sharma, Rajesh Jain and Naveen Kumar.

Since the IPL began the police was receiving inputs that these nine persons are involved in running IPL betting racket. Yesterday, specific inputs received that these accused will be carrying their betting racket from hotel Crown Plaza.

They booked a room on May 21 for carrying the racket for the final match of the IPL being played between Mumbai India and Pune.

A raid was conducted at Crown Plaza, Rithala, Rohini and nine persons were found running a betting racket by using mobile phones and laptops. All the nine persons were arrested and articles being used for booking of bets were seized from the spot.

During interrogation, they said Miglani, Kalra and Jitender are the kingpins. Miglani used to run the betting racket with Pankaj Garg, whereas Jitender Kumar runs the racket with his brother-in-law Nikhil and his associates Rajesh Jain, Naveen, Nitin, Sumit Sharma and Amit.

Other apprehended persons were assisting their heads and sharing commissions on the profit basis. Miglani has previously been arrested in a similar case registered at the Tuglak Road Police Station, said DCP (Crime) Madhur Verma.
