ISI suspect arrested for blackmailing lady colonel

Special Cell of the Delhi Police on the complaint of an Indian Army woman colonel has arrested a man suspected of having links with Pakistan spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The accused was arrested for allegedly threatening to upload morphed pictures of the colonel on the Internet, said a police official.

The accused, Mohd Parvez, who is in his early 30s, was arrested from Chandni Mahal, North Delhi, on September 13. But after it was found that he had visited Pakistan a few times, the matter was transferred to the Special Cell for the probe, said a senior police official.

The colonel filed a police complaint in Dwarka, alleging that she was asked for secret document which she refused. After which she started receiving morphed and obscene pictures through WhatsApp from two unknown numbers.

The colonel was threatened that if she did not speak to the sender of the messages, the pictures would be circulated on the Internet, the official said.

After she blocked the numbers, the colonel’s daughter started receiving morphed pictures and messages from the Facebook profile of a woman, added the officail.

The person sending the pictures and messages asked the colonel’s daughter to speak to the sender and threatened her with uploading the pictures on social media.

The colonel approached the police and a case was registered. On the basis of the information gained through the Facebook profile and the records of the two numbers, Parvez was detained.

During his interrogation, it emerged that he had visited Pakistan and had made SIM cards available to some Pakistani nationals. It was suspected that he is linked with the ISI, the official said.

He was found to have suspicious antecedents and is being questioned by the Special Cell sleuths in connection with the matter.

It is suspected that he was threatening the colonel since he wanted to extract sensitive information from her, an angle that is currently being probed.

According to sources in the police department, till now investigation has revealed that suspect has provided some sensitive information to the ISI. He wanted some more information from the colonel to be given to the ISI but the colonel informed the police regarding it and he was arrested.

However, the Special Commissioner of the Delhi Police Depender Pathak has said that, “Initially the police received a complaint of outraging a modesty of a woman and a case under IT Act was registered, but further the questionable links of the woman will be probed but presently the investigation is at initial stage which is being carried out by a high-level team. And after which only something can be said.”
