Journalists'' murders: Media silent protest

NEW DELHI:Condemning the brutal murder of Tripura based TV journalist Santanu Bhowmik today, media organizations today resolved to hold a silent protest on October 2 against the spate of killings involving journalists across the country and urged the Government to publish a report on all slain journalists and the status of probe into their murders.

Condemning the brutal murder of Tripura based TV journalist Santanu Bhowmik today, media organizations today resolved to hold a silent protest on October 2 against the spate of killings involving journalists across the country and urged the Government to publish a report on all slain journalists and the status of probe into their murders. 

Press Club of India, Indian Women's Press Corps, Press Association of India, Federation of Press Clubs of India and the North-East Media Forum held a joint protest meeting this evening to express solidarity with Bhoumik and others killed in the line of duty.

Senior journalists PCI president Gautam Lahiri, Amit Baruah, Rajdeep Sardesai, Alok Mehta, Randeep Sardesai and Nalini Singh spoke on assaults on free expression and demanded urgent action from respective Governments. 

IWPC general secretary Aditi Tandon demanded monthly publication of the status of investigations into the murder of each Indian journalist flagging the peculiarly high risks for small town media persons.—TNS
