New Delhi, January 19

In the wake of Election Commission of India’s recommendations to the President for disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs in office of profit case, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president, Ajay Maken said the Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, had lost the right to be in power in Delhi.

Maken said 20 AAP MLAs deserved to be disqualified because as parliamentary secretaries, they were getting facilities equivalent to ministers, like office vehicle, staff, office space and other facilities, which was a clear-cut case of “office of profit”.

He said the Chief Minister was allowed to appoint one parliamentary secretary attached to his office as per rules, but the AAP government had appointed 21 parliamentary secretaries thereby attaching three parliamentary secretaries to each minister.

Maken demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on corruption charges.

Maken said the DPCC would start agitations all over the city to expose the corruption of the AAP government. The party will hold a massive demonstration at the Players’ Building, Delhi Secretariat, on January 22.

He said the Congress had submitted a petition to the Chief Election Commission in June 2016 seeking the disqualification of the 21 AAP MLAs on the office-of-profit issue.
