Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken has demanded the resignation of all 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs who were illegally appointed as Parliamentary Secretaries.

Addressing a press conference, Maken accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of appointing these MLAs in order to give them VVIP status. They also received various facilities such as luxury cars, plush office spaces, personal staff, etc.

He also accused Kejriwal of being a hypocrite as he had portrayed the image of a common man to win the Delhi Assembly elections.

“This decision of Kejriwal is in stark contrast with the ‘aam aadmi’ plank he played to secure votes in the Delhi Elections. If 20 AAP MLAs have any ethics, they should immediately resign so that the uncertainty that haunts these 20 assembly constituencies is removed and the people of these constituencies are not put through any difficulty.” Maken said.

He said in order to buy time and delay the proceedings the AAP had filed an application to the Election Commission (EC) wherein the MLAs pleaded that after the Delhi High Court had quashed their appointment, the proceedings before the EC cannot survive.

Gupta hails the decision

Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, has welcomed decision of the EC.

Gupta said, “The AAP stands fully exposed in this matter and had been giving various arguments during the past two years as part of their strategy to defeat the very purpose of filling petition on the issue.”

He added, “Under the constitutional provisions there cannot be more than seven ministers in Delhi but to save the AAP from being disintegrating 28 ministers were made in Delhi which is against the Constitution.
