New Delhi, June 2

Safety inspection of the upcoming Mandi House-ITO section of Delhi Metro today resulted in long queues and crowded trains on the Violet Line as services were briefly affected on that section.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) started the inspection at around 11 am and the exercise continued till 12.15 pm. During that period, services between the Central Secretariat and Mandi House stations operated on a single line, leading to a slowing down of train movement and crowding.

Trains leaving towards ITO station from Mandi House generated curiosity among commuters, who flooded the security personnel with queries.

"The result of the CMRS inspection is awaited. Upon receiving the report/clearance from CMRS, DMRC will try to open this section at the earliest," said DMRC's chief spokesman, Anuj Dayal.

CMRS's inspection of the Mandi House to ITO section comes after months of delay over technical issues pertaining to the Metro Railway General Rules.

The Urban Development Ministry amended and notified changes to the Metro Railway General Rules, 2013, to allow operations on single-line sections. The move paving the way towards operationalising the section.—PTI
