Minor girl among three killed in two fire incidents

A six-year-old girl charred to death in a fire that broke out in a slum area near Dilshad Garden today. Around 300 shanties were gutted. In the girl was identified as Kalwa, said a DFS official.

Due the fire the Metro train services between Dilshad Garden and Mansarovar Park stations were suspended for over an hour as a precautionary measure.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), at 1.15 pm, a heavy smoke was reported to be billowing out of the slums beneath the viaduct between Mansarovar Park and Shahdara (Line-1) Metro stations. Fifteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

“As a precautionary measure, the train services were suspended between three stations between the Dilshad Garden and Mansarovar Park Metro stations during this period. The rest of the line remained unaffected,” a DMRC statement said.

It also stated that normal services were resumed at 2.33 pm after due clearances.

In another incident, two men were killed in a fire that broke out in a jeans manufacturing factory in Gandhi Nagar of Shahdara, the DFS official said.

The deceased were identified as Fezan (22) and Shahmat (30).

A call was received around 11.45 am about the fire and it was controlled by 12.30 am. Ten fire tenders were pressed into the service.

The ground floor of the factory is a godown for clothes while stitching work is carried out on the first and second floors of the building, said the official.

The owner of the factory, Kishore Aggarwal (68), lives on the third floor with his family. The other labourers and Aggarwal’s family were rescued from the blaze but two labourers got trapped in it.

Prima facie it is revealed that a short-circuit could be the reason behind the blaze, said a police official.

It was found that the building in Kailash Nagar was stuffed with jeans material blocking the escape routes. The labourers stuck in the building had panicked and tried to escape to the terrace but had fallen unconscious due to the fumes, said the DFS official.

A case has been registered, the official added.
